The Rule and life of the Friars Minor is this, that is, to observe the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, living in obedience, without anything of their own and in chastity.

Francis desires for himself and his friars a life permeated and transformed by an encounter with the face that is Gospel, Good News for man: the face of Jesus Christ who serves, heals and saves. St. Francis therefore does not see the Gospel as a book to be read, but as a relationship within which to lay out one’s whole life, a totalizing relationship that makes one rich, free and capable of receiving and giving love.

Suor Maria Giuseppa took on Francis’ spiritual legacy and with the same vigor passed it on to her daughters:

...solely to do the Will of God to observe a rule that has the holy Gospel as its basis and to draw souls to God, who by consecrating themselves also to the observance of the same rule would toil for the good of the poor orphan daughters of the people. To support this mission I am ready to give my life, without being able to yield to any other proposal. It is God who so willed, without my merit.
