Yesterday, December 29, 2025, we began the day by listening to the introductory report on the work of the Second Extraordinary General Chapter by Mother Lorella Veri. After a brief reference regarding the journey we have made, Mother General reminded all the sisters of our point of reference and the goal of our journey: “We need to stop and reflect on our identity as consecrated missionaries, to ask ourselves how meaningful our charism is, to identify a language and concrete expressions that convey its relevance and beauty.” Sr. Lorella invited us to turn this desire into a commitment to seek tangible steps that lighten the structures without, however, mortifying what is necessary. Two fundamental attitudes for this journey of research are: to look up and to immerse oneself within, as Pope Leo wisely reminded consecrated persons.
After this rich spiritual introduction, we began the procedures for the start of the Chapter, and the Chapter’s canon law expert, Father Leonello Leidi, gave his presentation of the working document that will accompany us during these days.
The following day, we had the gift of celebrating Mass in the Porziuncola, presided over by Father Danilo Tremolada, OFM. The Scriptures offered us Anna as a model of expectation and prophecy. United in this holy place, we offered our prayers for all the sisters of our religious family, that the work of the Chapter may bear fruit for the good of the Institute. The day saw us particularly engaged in discernment, individually, in groups, and in assembly, to reflect on the model best suited to our reality. The road ahead of us remains long and complex, but we are sustained by the atmosphere of communion and mutual acceptance that has spontaneously developed. Facilitating mutual attention is, without doubt, the translation service offered by two sisters: Sr. Cecilia Nanni Costa for English and Sr. Carolina Hurtado for Spanish. We joyfully welcome the many expressions of closeness and affection that reach us and sustain us. The journey continues….
